FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I get my real estate license in Illinois?

The first step is to complete 75 hours of residential and commercial real estate courses, either in person or online. This is to prepare you for the state licensing exam. Upon passing the exam, you will need to apply for your license with the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation. As soon as your application is approved, you will need to file a 45-day permit sponsor card to activate your license.

How difficult is the Illinois real estate exam?

Although the test is extensive and requires in-depth knowledge of the material, the good news is that roughly 75% of those who take it pass. This means that as long you pay attention and complete our real estate classes in Chicago successfully, you stand a very good chance of passing the exam on your first try.

How long do most people study for the real estate exam?

We recommend starting your preparations for the test at least a month or two ahead of time. This is because the material can be complicated and requires a deep understanding of the ins and outs of the business. Our classes are designed to give you the foundation you need to be successful.

What happens if I fail the real estate exam in Illinois?

If you fail, you are allowed to retake the exam up to three more times. If you fail only one section of the exam, you only have to worry about retaking that section. Failing either section of the exam four times means you are required to complete the 75 hours of required classes again before you are eligible to retake it. Upon taking the exam for a fifth time, you will be required to pass both sections regardless of whether you passed one section on a previous attempt.
