Leasing Agent or Broker?

If You’re..:

  • A self starter
  • Motivated
  • Ambitious
  • Flexible
  • Personable
  • Professional
  • Easy going
  • Just starting out

You should be:

A leasing agent

Why?:

The leasing agent profession is fairly low key and flexible  You’re in charge of your own schedule and all of your clients, so largely you are your own boss.  Since leasing agents primarily handle residential rentals, you must know how to deal with young college students, young professionals and young families. If you’re just starting out in real estate, it’s the perfect position for you. WARNING: don’t mistake “low key and flexible” for meaning ” I don’t have to do anything!” Being a leasing agent is hard work, and YOU are largely in charge of motivating yourself to get out, get clients, and close deals.

  • Knowledgeable (especially about Real Estate)

You should be:

A broker

Why?:

The broker position is for individuals looking to become more involved in the real estate industry. Once you upgrade to a broker’s license, you gain the ability to not only rent, but sell both residential and commercial property. This means a lot more responsibility, a lot more organization and a lot more money. Anyone looking to become a licensed broker must be confident in their real estate knowledge, especially when it comes to the current market they are working in. This often comes with being in the industry for a few years.
